Dacorum Borough Council hosted the launch of this year’s Dacorum’s Den on Friday 29 April. Just like “Dragon’s Den” but for our own local business community, Dacorum’s Den is an opportunity for eligible businesses to apply for a business grant of up to £1,000.
Mike Penning, MP, who generously gives up his time every year to be involved, said “Dacorum’s Den has been a highlight of my year ever since I was kindly invited to take part. This is a great initiative which shows that Dacorum is serious about supporting new and fledgling businesses.”
The launch event saw all five of this year’s judges- Mike Penning MP, Ambi Singh (Lumiere Developments), Jean McLeish (Sopra Steria), Martin Fieldman (Abode Bed & Continental) and Andy Cook (FFEI) - meet and greet potential applicants, as well as previous winners, to talk about what they will be looking for this year. The judges said they would be looking for “passion and drive” and wanted to see that “spark” from someone talking about their business idea. They not only want to know why the money will be a good investment, but what the impact would be for our area as well- it is all about being local after all.
Each of the judges this year are from thriving local businesses that have sponsored Dacorum’s Den 2016, making this the first year that Dacorum Borough Council are facilitating the scheme, rather than leading it. Ambi Singh, Managing Director of Lumiere Developments, said, “Lumiere are keen to help support local businesses, charities and clubs across Dacorum and to promote Hemel Hempstead as a great place to work, live and enjoy.”
The Economic Wellbeing team at the Council, who are here to support all businesses in the area, meet with all the applicants before they enter the Den to give them the benefit of their fantastic support services available to all Dacorum based businesses.
If you have an innovative new idea or think your business has what it takes to conquer Dacorum’s Den then visit www.dacorumlooknofurther.co.uk/dacorums-den for more information and to apply. Deadline for entries is Sunday 5 June.
